Request a Library Card

Two kinds of library cards are available for free to those who live, work, own property, or go to school in Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties.

A Borrowing Account allows you to check out materials at at any AMY Regional Library System branch, as well as from other libraries that participate in the NC Cardinal consortium. In order to obtain a Borrowing Account, you can fill out this form online to preregister and then visit your local AMY Regional Library branch within seven days and present a driver's license, state ID, utility bill or other proof of address to have a card issued to you. If you do not visit the library within seven days, your preregistration information will not be available to the library staff, but they will be happy to collect it and set up an account for you at the library. A Borrowing Account will also give you access to online electronic resources.

An Online Access Only account allows you to make use of online electronic resources provided to you by AMY Regional Library. These cards do not require you to visit the library in person and are generally available within two business days. Once you fill out this form online, staff at AMY Regional Library will create your online account and send you an email with the username and password, once it is active. If you do not qualify for a free Borrowing Account card, you may register as a non-resident for a $10.00 per year fee.

If you do not qualify for a FREE Borrowing Account Card, please contact your local library to request a non-resident card for $10 per year.
